Delicious Chocolate-Themed Books

Happy Valentine’s week, everyone! In anticipation of this delicious holiday, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite chocolate-filled children’s and YA books. I’m lucky to have savored quite a few in my day. Enjoy.

max chocolateMax’s Chocolate Chicken by Rosemary Wells. Sweet, dear Max is one of my favorite children’s book characters, so of course I can’t help but love the way he stares adoringly at his beloved chocolate chicken. (And giggle at the way he tries to hide it from Ruby.)

chocolatinaChocolatina by Erik Kraft. A beautifully illustrated children’s book about a young girl who turns into chocolate after being told, over and over, “You are what you eat” by a snide teacher.

charlieCharlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. A classic in children’s, chocolate-, and candy-themed literature. I loved this story about a boy who takes a fateful tour through a chocolate factory along with several other strange children.

choc touchThe Chocolate Touch by Patrick Skene Catling. I devoured this book countless times as a child. A young boy eats a magic chocolate that makes everything taste like chocolate—and he soon learns that one can have too much of a good thing.

warThe Chocolate War by Robert Cormier. This is a rather dark YA novel about a boy who is challenged by a cruel gang of students to refuse to sell chocolates for his school’s annual fundraiser.

Have you read any good chocolate-themed books?
